Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who would use the facility SPLASH is proposing?
- Instructional and recreational programs
- Open swim—casual users from age 0 to 100
- Aquatic and rehabilitation therapists and sports medicine
- Year-round swim and diving teams, both youth and masters
- Year-round water polo tournaments—this project would have a 50m pool + auxiliary pools
- High school water polo and swim training and competition—King County, districts, or state
- Midlakes' A Champs, clinics, and meetings
2. What other features might it have?
- Slides and splash features, lazy river, party rooms, a smoothie bar and other sports-friendly food choices, a retail aquatics shop, a community library or tutoring facility, dry-land training area for teams, and a sports medicine clinic.
3. Where would this be located?
- This remains to be determined but possibly on publicly owned-property in Bellevue—with good freeway access, near public transportation, and near hotels.
4. What's the timeframe?
- This is a large project, which will take some time to plan. The best-case scenario would be in the 2009–2010 timeframe, given that a project this size requires the cooperation of multiple government entities, as well as fundraising from the community. Your help can get us there faster!
5. How much will it cost?
- The cost is expected to be around $25 million, of which we expect that $5–8 million will be raised from donations from the aquatics community (people like you!) and the local business community.
