Impressive Proposals Received; Feasibility Study Next—The City of Bellevue Parks Department, along with SPLASH board members, have reviewed proposals from six firms competing to conduct a feasibility study for SPLASH’s proposed Eastside aquatic center. The quality of the proposals was impressive, with many firms having extensive experience developing and designing large, multi-use aquatics facilities. A firm will be selected in early June and work will begin shortly after the assignment.

The process will include economic and demographic studies, community input sessions, and financial forecasting. To stay up to date with the very latest news on the progress of the study, sign up to receive the SPLASH e-newsletter. Click here.

PNS Endorses SPLASH!—Andy Hathaway, General Chair of the Pacific Northwest Swimming board, fully endorses SPLASH’s concept of a new regional competitive pool complex on the Eastside. PNS’s support is an important step forward and will be a significant help to SPLASH, especially as we garner political support. To view Andy’s complete endorsement, simply click here.

The Bellevue Parks and Recreation Department has set aside $100,000 in their 2007 budget to hire a consultant to study the feasibility of developing an aquatic center on the Eastside. SPLASH provided a detailed specifications document to be used in the study. (Please click here to read the specification document.)

SPLASH representatives have found enthusiastic support from governmental representatives in the region. Informational meetings have been held with key members of the Bellevue City Council, and Bellevue School Board, as well as King County Council members and state and federal elected officials. They all recognize the need and have expressed the desire to help.

SPLASH is currently looking for qualified citizens to serve on the SPLASH board of directors. If you are as passionate about the need for an aquatic facility on the Eastside and willing to give or your time and skills we need to talk. (Please click here to contact us.)
