CARE ABOUT BELLEVUE POOLS? – PLEASE SHOW UP!

Summary: The Bellevue City Council is currently reviewing the preliminary 2011-2012 operating budget and the preliminary 2011 – 2017 capital investment program (CIP) plan. On September 27, the SPLASH Board of Directors asked the Council to include the following in its budget:

  1. $300,000 for aquatic facility designs and studies; and
  2. $2,900,000 for either (a) renovating the existing Bellevue Aquatic Center so it can be used for competition and other deep water activities, or (b) designing, constructing, and operating a temporary swimming pool facility in Bellevue for competition, recreation, education, and physical therapy uses.

Isn’t the City of Bellevue facing budget cuts?: Yes. However, there are unallocated CIP funds and we hope the City Council will prioritize an aquatic facility in this budget cycle.

How can I help?: Attend the last public hearing on November 15th, 8 pm at Bellevue City Hall (450 - 110th Avenue N.E.). Over the last six weeks community members/organizations have been addressing the Council about the need for an aquatics facility. We need your presence at this meeting; this is the last chance to address the Council before the budget is finalized.

I can’t attend but would like to help: Email the Council members (below) and budgetcomments@bellevuewa.gov. Ask the Council to include funding for aquatic facility designs and studies, and either the renovation of the Bellevue Aquatic Center or a temporary swimming pool. Now is the time to start planning for a facility, without funding we can’t move forward.

We need your presence in the chamber and your e-mails to council members so the Council can see and hear that we the people need decent public pools.
